Upon listening to tracks off the new Drew Davis release (Traffic) I thought she must have gone through some serious heartache to produce such depth. Everything from the emotion in her playing, vocals, and lyrics points to passion and soul. But truth be told, this girl just has a serious knack for narration. At 18 years old she has some of the most emotionally driven music I’ve heard in a long time. When we asked where Drew gets her inspiration she replied: “Little to none of the heartache is actually mine. I watch other people go through the trials and tribulations and only imagine what they’re feeling. So that’s what I do, I imagine. And try to help other people share their stories.”
The stories told on her debut album, Traffic, are worth a listen. Blending Jazz, pop, and piano Drew Davis takes us from fun and flirty (Blue Eyes) to full blown heart ache (Drive). Her soulful voice and poetic lyrics age her beyond 18.
